Written as a series of sixteen educational lectures, Town and Window Gardening was designed to introduce young readers and amateur gardeners to the structure, habits, cultivation, and uses of plants.

Original green publisher’s cloth, decorated in black and gilt with botanical motifs, the volume remains a wonderful example of late nineteenth-century decorative binding design. Throughout the text are numerous black-and-white botanical illustrations depicting flowers, fruits, trees, roots, window-box gardening, propagation techniques, and plant structures.

The work blends practical gardening instruction with botanical education, covering topics such as seeds, roots, flowers, grafting, climbing plants, fruits, wildflowers, trees suitable for urban environments along with observations gathered from the Royal Gardens at Kew.
