A finely bound prize copy of Tennyson’s Poetical Works, presented by Charterhouse School in 1899. Bound in full navy blue polished calf with the school’s gilt armorial crest (“Deo Dante Dedi”) stamped to the front board. The spine is richly gilt tooled with decorative floral motifs and raised bands, gilt titling, and gilt borders to the boards.
The volume features all edges marbled, striking marbled endpapers, and gilt dentelle turn-ins. The prize inscription plate records its presentation to L. S. Farquharson for French (Division I), signed by Head Master W. Haig Brown, dated August 1899.
