Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 1893
Revise this description below!!!! *****************
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s Evangeline is a narrative poem about two young Acadians, Evangeline and Gabriel, separated during the expulsion of the Acadians from Grand-Pré. Evangeline’s long search for Gabriel gives the poem its themes of love, loss, exile, and endurance.
This 1893 edition from Thomas Y. Crowell & Company includes notes and a full-page engraved illustration. It is especially appealing for its pale floral cloth cover, with pink blossoms and an ornate gilt-decorated spine. A previous owner’s inscription, dated 1896, is present.
The binding is tight and the pages are clean, with light age toning and a few spots. The cloth shows some rubbing and wear, including at the lower corners and spine ends.
Size:
A lovely Victorian edition of Longfellow’s beloved poem, with a charming floral binding and a dated 19th-century ownership inscription.
