A beautifully preserved 1929 revised first edition of British Insect Life by Edward Step, elegantly rebound in full dark green leather by Rivière & Son Binderies and richly decorated in gilt. This natural history volume explores the fascinating world of British insects through entomological writing along with illustrations, including eight vivid color plates by Alfred Priest and numerous photographic figures throughout.

The binding features ornate gilt borders, gilt spine tooling, blind-stamped board edges, marbled endpapers, and a gilt unicorn crest of Orleton School to the front board. The richly colored plates depicting butterflies, dragonflies, beetles, bees, and moths lend the work exceptional appeal making it desirable for collectors of natural history, entomology, and finely bound books.

Illustrated throughout with 8 color plates and 32 half-tone plates comprising 248 figures. Published in London by T. Werner Laurie Ltd., revised edition dated 1929.

Binding tight. Leather with a few minor marks to boards. Gilt bright. Interior clean with beautifully preserved plates and marbled endpapers. Includes Orleton School bookplate dated 1935.
