A Thief in the Night by E. W. Hornung by E. W. Hornung (1907) | Illustrated

A Thief in the Night presents further adventures of A. J. Raffles—gentleman cricketer by day, ingenious cracksman by night—one of the most enduring characters of Edwardian crime fiction. Written by E. W. Hornung, the brother-in-law of Arthur Conan Doyle, these stories helped define the sophisticated anti-hero in early detective literature.

This 1907 Scribner’s edition is attractively bound in its original red cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and the Scribner colophon stamped in gilt on the front board. The volume is illustrated throughout by Cyrus Cuneo, whose moody black-and-white plates capture the tension, elegance, and theatrical drama of Raffles’ exploits. The book opens with an illustrated frontispiece and includes several interior plates.

Binding tight /sound. Cloth clean and vibrant with light. Gilt bright. Contents clean with mild/minor age-toning.286pp.
