1898 - The Rhine from Its Source to the Sea | Illustrated Two-Volume Set

A handsome two-volume illustrated journey along the Rhine, from its Alpine source to the sea. Translated by G. C. T. Bartley from the German works of Karl Stieler, H. Wachenhusen, and F. W. Hackländer, this “New Edition, Revised and Corrected” follows the river through Switzerland and Germany, with chapters on its valleys, towns, castles, and historic landmarks.

The volumes feature numerous photogravure illustrations, each accompanied by a captioned tissue guard. Their rich deep cocoa brown cloth covers are decorated with striking gilt floral designs, complemented by gilt top edges and an attached red silk page marker. The title pages name The John C. Winston Co. and the International Press in Philadelphia; the copyright page is dated 1898.
