This Allgemeines Gesangbuch (General Hymn Book) was issued under royal command and privilege, intended for use in churches and homes throughout Schleswig, Holstein, Pinneberg, Printed in Kiel in 1805, this extraordinary early 19th-century German royal privilege Allgemeines Gesangbuch hymnal/devotional was created for both public worship and private devotion across the Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein.

More than a hymnal, this volume carries the Epistles and Gospels appointed for Sundays and principal feast days throughout the year — guiding its original owner through the full rhythm of the liturgical calendar. Morning hymns, sacred readings, reflections for holy days — all gathered within one richly bound devotional companion. Note two photos show translations following original pages with German text.*

The binding is striking with deep red leather, beautifully grained, framed in delicate gilt ornament. The edges are hand-gauffered and gilded. A silver clasp, marked “EEB,” secures the text block, while an ornate jeweled mount set with red stones lends the volume the presence of a treasured heirloom.

Marbled endpapers open to clean, early 19th-century pages printed in traditional German Fraktur type. Binding tight/sound. Pages clean.
