1798 – Reflections for Every Day in the Year, On the Works of God, and of His Providence Throughout All Nature | C.C. Sturm, 6th Edition. London | Complete in Two Volumes | Full Tree Calf
A refined late 18th-century devotional classic: Christoph Christian Sturm’s Reflections for Every Day in the Year, on the Works of God and of His Providence throughout All Nature, printed in London in 1798, Sixth Edition.
Translated from the German and widely read throughout Britain and America, Sturm’s daily meditations unite natural philosophy with Protestant devotional thought. Each day offers a reflection grounded in the observable world — the seasons, plants, planets, human frailty — drawing the reader toward contemplation of divine order and providence.
Complete in two elegant volumes, both retain their original contemporary full tree calf bindings. The boards feature matching gilt Greek-key borders, mirrored front and back. Spines are handsomely gilt-tooled with classical lyre and ornamental motifs, red morocco title labels, and black volume labels. Dentelle detail.
Each volume includes its engraved frontispiece. Marbled endpapers remain intact. A contemporary 1798 ownership inscription adds period character and provenance. Bindings tight/sound. Interiors clean with light age toning.
