La Petite Chapelle – Éliane, Souvenirs de Normandie | 1850

This 1850 third edition of La Petite Chapelle suivi de Éliane, Souvenirs de Normandie by Madame Élise Voïart is a beautiful example of French cartonnage romantique binding by Mame et Cie of Tours. The boards are richly embossed with floral and foliate motifs in green and white over a warm tan ground, with a central gilt medallion to the front and an intricate floral bouquet to the back. The spine is equally ornate, with gilt titling and matching decoration.

The interior features an engraved frontispiece protected by tissue guard, crisp typography, and clean pages with only light age toning. A period school prize label from the Pensionnat des Religieuses Ursulines de Jésus, dated 1843, adds provenance and charm. Binding secure, light rubbing to extremities, minor wear to corners.
