Each volume written by many different historians of the time.

Beautifully decorative illustrated cover & spine on olive cloth, American eagle in center of cover, gilt to top edges, deckled edges to two sides of edges, illustrated frontispiece with engravings; illustrated within, with tissue guard, bindings tight, clean pages.

Most books in good vintage condition, some with some slight rubbing to detail on covers/spines or some mild spotting on cover. A few have slight bend to corners of front cover. Three volumes do have damaged covers which are noted above. Overall this incredibly detailed and beautifully published collection which would look stunning on any bookshelf.
