At The Sign of the Reine Pedauque is a novel written by Anatole France, first published in 1892. Set in France during the 18th century, the story follows the adventures of a young law student named Gerard de Nerval, who becomes embroiled in a series of mysterious and dangerous events after he is invited to stay at the inn of the Reine Pedauque. Through his encounters with a cast of colorful characters, including a freethinking scholar, a cunning thief, and a beautiful and enigmatic young woman, Gerard is forced to confront the corrupt and hypocritical society in which he lives, and to question his own beliefs and values.
