Frances Dana Gage(October 12, 1808 – November 10, 1884) often went by the pen name of Aunt Fannie. For Women’s History Month we are recognizing the works of Frances Dana Barker Gage (1808-1884), an American writer, lecturer, and women's rights activist who played a crucial role in the women's suffrage movement in the mid-19th century. Born in Marietta, Ohio, she received a rigorous education at home which allowed her to develop a passion for literature and education. Gage used her writing and public speaking skills to advocate for women's rights which included the right to vote, equal education, and equal pay. She also worked tirelessly to abolish slavery and promote temperance. Gage's activism and writings were instrumental in shaping the feminist movement of her time, and her legacy continues to inspire generations of women's rights activists today.
