Published in 1873 by William P. Nimmo of Edinburgh, Curious and Instructive Stories About Wild Animals and Birds is a beautifully produced Victorian natural history volume, illustrated by the celebrated animal artist Joseph Wolf.
Full leather school prize binding, first edition, by Bickers & Son of London bound by one of the most respected Victorian binderies. The covers feature gilt borders and decorative tooling, with the Eagle House School, Wimbledon arms stamped in gilt to the front and a matching institutional emblem to the rear. The spine is richly gilt with floral tools and retains its original title label.
Vibrant marbled endpapers and marbled page edges. Full-color frontispiece depicting lions in the wild, along with additional black-and-white illustrations within. The book was awarded as a school prize during Christmas Term, 1878, with a fully intact presentation inscription signed by A. N. Malan, adding a layer of documented educational provenance.
Full leather binding remains solid with age-related wear and light surface marks. Gilt tooling remains bright. Dentelle detail. Marbled endpapers and edges. Binding is sound and pages are firmly attached. Illustrated.
