A handsome 1863 French historical work, Les Débuts d’un Héros, ou Saint Louis en Saintonge, by Henri Feuilleret, former professor of history at the Collège de Saintes. Published in Rouen by Mégard et Cie., this volume recounts an episode from the early life of Saint Louis, King Louis IX of France.

Bound in a richly decorated gilt and ivory, with an elaborate repeating floral-and-geometric panel design and a colorful pictorial onlay depicting a maritime scene. 

Binding tight. Light rubbing and wear to the corners/spine ends. Interior pages show scattered foxing and age toning. Note photos for additional details.
