A scarce and beautifully bound private-press edition of The Book of Sindibad; or, The Story of the King, His Son, the Damsel, and the Seven Vazirs, printed in Glasgow in 1884 by James Cameron. This edition was privately printed in a limited issue of only 300 copies.

Drawn from Persian and Arabic sources, this important collection belongs to the ancient “Seven Wise Masters” cycle of interconnected tales. Through stories of intrigue, temptation, loyalty, deception, and wisdom, it reveals the literary traditions that also shaped many of the narratives associated with The Thousand and One Nights. The volume was edited by Scottish folklorist William Alexander Clouston, with his extensive introduction, notes, and appendix providing valuable historical and comparative context.

The binding is striking, with marbled paper-covered boards and a vellum spine richly embellished with intricate gilt floral tooling. A brown leather title label with gilt lettering and gilt decoration framing the marbled boards. Matching marbled endpapers and gilt edges add to the volume’s refined presentation.

Included is one folding table. A small private bookplate appears inside the front cover. The binding remains tight and the pages are clean, with minor light wear along the edges consistent with age. 385pp.
