British Sailor Heroes (1910, First Edition) | Full Navy Calf Prize Binding, Denstone College Crest |Marbled
A striking early 20th-century prize binding of British Sailor Heroes: From Howard to Nelson, edited by Sir T. Knox Laughton and published by Bickers & Son, London (circa 1910). Elegantly bound in rich navy full calf, the boards are framed with fine gilt borders and adorned with the gilt arms of Denstone College to the upper cover, with the Latin motto beneath.
The spine is handsomely tooled in gilt with raised bands and a contrasting title panel, while the interior reveals vibrant marbled endpapers and matching marbled edges. A worn prize bookplate from Denstone College, dated 1923 affixed to inside front board.
Illustrated throughout with portraits, engravings, and naval scenes, the work chronicles key figures in British naval history, including Howard, Drake, and Nelson, making this both a decorative and historical volume.
