Samuel McChord Crothers introduces readers to the children who populate Charles Dickens’s novels, including Pip, Oliver Twist, Little Nell, the Cratchit children, and the Dombey children. The book offers background on Dickens and his characters, then presents scenes from the novels. Jessie Willcox Smith’s ten full-page color plates bring these memorable characters to life. The binding is tight, with red top edges and bright gilt lettering to the spine. The color illustration pasted to the front cover has some fading to its pink and red border. A few spots to front board. A handwritten gift inscription appears on the illustrated endpaper.
