Edwardes with an introduction by Grace Rhys. Published in London by J. M. Dent & Co. (Aldine House) and in New York by E. P. Dutton & Co.

This important costume and social history work presents nineteenth-century life as reflected through European fashion, art, and society. The volumes draw upon original sources such as Journal des Dames, Gallery of Fashion, La Mode, Wiener Zeitschrift, and The Repository, reproducing the visual culture of the era in both monochrome and color plates.

The illustrations in this edition are high-quality early 20th-century color and monochrome printed reproductions, executed with excellent clarity and detail.

Bound in an elegant early 20th-century half leather binding with raised bands, gilt spine tooling, marbled boards, and marbled endpapers. All page edges are gilt. Frontispiece with tissue guards. Numerous illustrations/engravings throughout. Two of the spine title labels show partial surface loss consistent with age and handling. The lettering remains largely legible and the bindings remain structurally sound/tight.  Leather shows light surface wear and minor rubbing consistent with age. Plates vibrant. Pages clean/crisp. A refined and highly decorative set with strong shelf presence.
