A remarkable second edition (1805) of Exercises of Piety, for the Use of Enlightened and Virtuous Christians by G.J. Zollikofer, pastor of the Reformed Church at Leipsic, translated by James Manning. Printed in London by J. Johnson, this elegantly bound devotional work is presented in full dark teal straight-grain morocco, richly gilt with ornate floral borders, dentelle-style gilt turn-ins, gilt page edges, and vibrant blue endpapers. Binding tight and gilt vibrant. 285pp

This copy bears extraordinary royal provenance: it is inscribed “Fanny Williams the gift of Her Royal Highness Princess Amelia 23d January 1809”. Princess Amelia (1783–1810) was the fifteenth and youngest child of King George III and Queen Charlotte. Her inscription confirms this volume was gifted personally, adding significant historical and collectible importance.

Includes the life of the author along with devotional reflections on God, Providence, immortality, Christ, love of mankind, duties of religion, contentment, and preparation for eternity. A deeply reflective work of 18th- and early 19th-century Protestant thought, made even more significant by its royal connection.
