Louisa M. Alcott’s- Aunt Jo’s Scrap-Bag: Shawl-Straps, Vol 2 (1873) – Early Edition, Roberts Brothers

An early edition of Aunt Jo’s Scrap-Bag, Vol. II: Shawl-Straps by Louisa May Alcott, published in Boston by Roberts Brothers in 1873.

This second volume in the beloved Aunt Jo’s Scrap-Bag series follows three spirited young women as they travel abroad through Brittany, France, Switzerland, Italy, and London. Written in Alcott’s lively and observant style, Shawl-Straps blends humor, independence, and cultural commentary, offering readers a Victorian-era female perspective on European travel.

Bound in original publisher’s red cloth with gilt titling to the spine. Interior includes some illustrated plates. A handsome and increasingly desirable early Alcott volume for collectors of 19th-century American literature.

Condition: Good ++. Original red cloth binding with small spotting to the front board and spine. Light edge and corner wear. Minor scattered foxing throughout. One page shows a lower-edge tear (as shown), not affecting text. Binding remains sound and sturdy. A very slight lean, not affecting structural integrity.

Size: 4 1/2” x 6 1/2”
