Les Émigrants – Gustave Nieritz | Illustrated | c.1840s-1850s | Gilt Architectural Motif and Gilt Urn to Boards
An exquisite example of mid-19th century cartonnage romantique, Les Émigrants by Gustave Nieritz is a beautifully illustrated French edition intended for young readers and their friends. Published in Paris by Belin-Leprieur et Morizot, this edition features two-tone illustrations by Derancourt, finely printed by Lemercier in Paris. The narrative follows a group of emigrants on their voyage and settlement, blending moral instruction with vivid storytelling, a hallmark of Nieritz’s works.

The front cover’s architectural motif frames the title in grand style, while the back features an intricate floral urn design. The pages are gilt-edged on all sides.
