Late 19th Century Jerusalem Pressed Flower Album in Olive Wood Binding | Holy Land Botanical Souvenir Book
A beautifully preserved late 19th to early 20th century Jerusalem pressed flower album bound in richly grained olive wood boards with a leather spine and decorative inlaid panel to the front cover reading “Jerusalem” in both Hebrew and English.
This Holy Land souvenir album contains twelve mounted botanical arrangements created from flowers gathered from sacred and historic regions throughout Jerusalem and the surrounding Holy Land. Each arrangement is carefully composed and captioned in four languages — Hebrew, German, French, and English.
The pages include floral compositions from Jerusalem, Mount Sion, Mount Moriah, Siloam, Grave of Rachel, Hebron, Mount of Olives, Valley of Jordan, Mount of Gerizim, Saren, Mount Carmel and Mount Hermon.
Most pages retain their original tissue guards, and the mounted botanical designs remain vibrant and decorative for the period. The olive wood binding display dramatic natural grain patterns characteristic of Holy Land craftsmanship produced for travelers and pilgrims visiting Jerusalem during the late Ottoman era.
