The Golden Treasury of Songs and Lyrics | Francis T. Palgrave | 1902 Macmillan Edition | Antique Poetry Anthology
A beautifully preserved early 20th-century edition of The Golden Treasury, Francis T. Palgrave’s celebrated anthology of English lyrical poetry, originally compiled during the Victorian era and regarded as one of the finest collections of poetry in the English language.
Published by Macmillan & Co. in London in 1902, this edition gathers works by poets including Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Pope, Nash, and many others, arranged seasonally and thematically across centuries of English verse.
Bound in a rich deep blue cloth with gilt titling to the spine and a gilt monogram to the front board, the book retains a refined and understated Edwardian appearance. Inside are clean, well-preserved pages with charming period typography throughout.
An inclusion of an original handwritten notecard tucked inside the volume, inscribed “Miss Corinne Jennings — Easter 1909,” offering a small glimpse into the life of one of the book’s early owners.
Condition: Very Good. Binding remains tight and sound. Light rubbing and wear to extremities, including minor wear at spine ends and corners. Pages remain clean with gentle age toning consistent with age. Period owner inscription dated 1903 present to the front endpaper. Original handwritten note/bookmark included.
