Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet, also known as Bossuet, was a prominent French bishop, theologian, and orator who lived from 1627 to 1704. Serving as the Bishop of Meaux from 1681 until his death, he was renowned for his eloquent sermons and writings on theology and political philosophy. Bossuet's influential works, such as the "Discourse on Universal History," provided a Christian perspective on history, emphasizing divine providence in human affairs and defending Catholic doctrine against theological challenges.

Beyond his religious influence, Bossuet was a trusted advisor to King Louis XIV of France and played a significant role in shaping political and social policies. His legacy as a theologian, orator, and thinker remains significant, with his insights into theology, history, and the church-state relationship continuing to be studied and appreciated by scholars and readers alike.
