This well preserved late 19th-century astronomy volume offers a fascinating glimpse into the celestial knowledge of its time. Written by Herbert A. Howe, Director of the Chamberlin Observatory at the University of Denver, the book was part of the Chautauqua Reading Circle program—an influential educational movement in American history.
Bound in rich terracotta cloth with a striking black-stamped image of Saturn on the cover, this edition features decorative corner flourishes and elegant black rule borders. The interior includes striking black-and-white illustrations, including early astronomical photographs and planetary renderings. The binding remains sound, though there is mild separation at back hinge with front hinge appears to have been reinforced and is tight (see photos). Clean pages throughout.
