Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, poet, playwright, and historian. He is often regarded as the inventor of the historical novel and was immensely popular during his time. Some of his most famous works include "Ivanhoe," "Rob Roy," "Waverley," and "The Lady of the Lake."

Scott's writing often romanticized Scottish history and culture, drawing on folklore, legends, and historical events. His novels typically feature complex characters, vivid descriptions of landscapes, and intricate plots set against the backdrop of significant historical periods.
